Best Apartments in Birmingham My wife and I lived in the Village for 3 years and we loved every minute of it. the apartments are spacious, quiet and the neighbors are all really friendly. The apartment manager Pat was also wonderful and Shae, the maintenance person was also just as good to us. We never really had any huge problems living here. Pros: * Great location * Friendly Management * large apartments * Quiet * Fast maintenance responses * Locally owned and managed * Clean and well kept Cons * Dusty in some apartments, it killed our allergies at times, especially when we ran the AC. * Air conditioners are under powered and mostly worn out. (You will want to live on the bottom floor if you like AC and a cheaper power bill) * Lots of roaches come in from the woods, but this is normal for a location that has a wooded area behind it. * Little expensive when compared to other apartments the pool gets invaded in the Summer by people who don't live there because the apartments don't have a gate * No garages or ... It's pathetic. It needs to be renovated to enlarge it and add some real equipment and a window or two. The Gold's Gym is a half mile away though. * No microwaves (This is pretty much standard in newer apartments) * The pool is way to small as well. It's not really much more than a kiddie pool and the maintenance person is spread too thin to keep it up during the Summer. They need to hire a professional who can come by daily or periodically at least. * Most of the windows won't raise anymore and stay up. They are just worn out. The Village is showing it's age, but it is still the best choice in the city. We almost moved to the Springs once when we lived there because it was more modern and would have fixed the shortcomings of the Village, but the Springs agents were horrible, gave us the runaround and the management for the apartments aren't local. It's a chain where the management is far removed from your concerns, unlike the village where the management is right there and can help you any day of the week. The apartments themselves were built by a professional builder and have features that we were not able to find anywhere else in Birmingham (we did an extensive search for apartments that would feel most like a home while we are still unable to buy). There is unique architectural detailing around the fireplace and crown molding throughout. The kitchen has several cabinets and drawers and enough space for two people to move around comfortably. We love having two walk in closets and above all love the feeling that we are in a large space (the ceilings are high and the living area has a unique open layout). The Village is not your typical cookie cutter apartment. So far it has been quiet, and we also feel pretty safe here.... you can leave your grill on your patio and neighbors most ... The location is perfect, we are central to highway 280 (not so far down that you are stuck in traffic 24/7, I work on Lakeshore and it is only a 15 minute commute in traffic) and 459/65 (VERY close to The Summit shopping center, and The Galleria/Sams Club) I would definitely recommend this complex and encourage you to take a tour.
