I'll be living here for a while I was sooooo scared to come live here cuz of all the bad stuf I heard about this place (like it's really dirty, rats, bad management, etc) but it was my only option money-wise. I pay $450 a month for my OWN ROOM in a 2-bed apt... You cannot find that kind of price anywhere in the bay area for what I'm getting. Full kitchen, bathroom, small living room, and a nicely sized room (not too small, not too big, I actually still have a lot of storage room). You are guaranteed a bed/desk/chair/drawers/closet. Most are good quality, you can always complain and management can arrange to have nicer ones for you. They are very helpful there. Also, past residents leave furniture behind! So my apt came with a small TV, dining table, couch, coffee table, and a couple side tables. So I ended up saving hundreds of dollars b/c I didn't have to buy those things myself. Of course, I have heard that I got lucky, some people DID end up with dirty places, but when I got here, my place was very clean. And ... And I have a corner room, so not much noise complaints, just a few so far. No complaints on the quality I get for what I pay, except for old carpeting in my room which was replaced within a few months. Common areas do get messy though, like the laundry room especially. It does get irritating, but I'd rather do workshift hours to tidy up those places than pay more (we do not have a paid cleaning staff, so residents do 8 hours per semester of workshift where you are required to clean up common areas for at least half those hours). I work 15+ hours per week along with classes, and I find that I can do my hw/studying in my own room about 98% of the time :) And of course, if its your first semester living here, you cannot choose who you can live with nor where. So a lot of what you get is based on luck. Try to aim for smaller apts. The 4-bedrooms are the ones with the worst quality and conflicts roommate-wise, though they only pay around $390 per month.
