Poor Customer Support + Outdated Rental Listings A painful experience I don't want to repeat. I visited the Westside office in Costa Mesa with my roommates. We looked at a house posting on Craigslist that Westside Rentals created before we headed to the office the next afternoon. What we encountered was ultimately a very disorganized company that is more interested in selling access to their housing database than renting property to customers. When we got there, the front desk receptionist was initially very helpful and we were able to bring up the listing for the house. We were given the option of checking out the house in person by checking out a key for 1.5 hours with a $250 hold on a credit card. We agreed and the staff were very slow on processing the paperwork and getting the key. It took around 20 minutes for the staff to finish it all and our time was already ticking down. When we got to the house, we found that there were already people living there. We didn't go inside but the screen door let us see there was furniture ... A painful experience I don't want to repeat. We called the office, who didn't understand what was going on and took their sweet time to call the landlord. The house had already been rented out and the office staff were not apologetic for wasting our time because they couldn't keep their records up to date. The wasted time isn't what made me mad, it was the potential that we could have rented property from Westside Rentals and they might have still given out keys and we would have people going through our house/apartment. The final nail in the coffin is that Westside offered us a free day access to their database when we returned the key, which they had already offered us when we first came in. There is no reason to buy access to their database when the Internet offers the same for free. Be aware of this shady renting company so you don't have to deal with their incompetence.
